The Prince Estate e Legacy Recordings, una divisione di Sony Music Entertainment, sono onorate di annunciare il 30 luglio l’uscita dell’enigmatico album del 2010 di Prince Welcome 2 America. Una potente dichiarazione creativa che documenta le preoccupazioni, le speranze e le visioni di Prince per una società in mutamento, prefigurando un’era di divisione politica, disinformazione e una rinnovata lotta per la giustizia razziale.
La traccia del titolo “Welcome 2 America” è ora disponibile su piattaforme di streaming. In tutta la potente canzone, In tutta la potente canzone, la natura superficiale dei social media, la cultura delle celebrità alimentata dai reality TV e i monopoli aziendali nell’industria musicale, concludendo infine che l’America è “Land of the free / home of the slave“
Poco dopo aver completato l’album Welcome 2 America, Prince ha intrapreso un tour unico con lo stesso nome che includeva più esibizioni in diverse città degli Stati Uniti, coronato dallo storico “21 Nite Stand” al Forum di Inglewood, California. L’edizione Deluxe di Welcome 2 America include l’album completo dello studio vault su CD e vinile nero (accompagnato da un download digitale ad alta risoluzione) più un video del concerto completo inedito dello spettacolo di Prince del 28 aprile 2011 al Forum, presentato in 1080p HD con stereo, 5.1 surround e audio Dolby Atmos.

Welcome 2 America presenta alcune delle uniche collaborazioni in studio di Prince con il bassista Tal Wilkenfeld, il batterista Chris Coleman e l’ingegnere candidato ai GRAMMY Jason Agel, con il contributo aggiuntivo dei cantanti della New Power Generation Shelby J., Liv Warfield ed Elisa Fiorillo e del tastierista Morris Hayes, che Prince ha anche reclutato per co-produrre diversi brani dell’album.
Il video del concerto dal vivo presenta Prince che si esibisce con la sua formazione dell’era 2011 della New Power Generation, tra cui Shelby J., Liv Warfield, Elisa Fiorillo e Morris Hayes, i tastieristi aggiuntivi Renato Neto e Cassandra O’Neal, il bassista Ida Nielsen, il batterista John Blackwell e le ballerine Maya e Nandy McClean (The Twinz). Catturato a metà della sua maratona “21 Nite Stand” al Forum di Inglewood, California, questa performance documenta la spontaneità e l’energia incendiaria di quella parte storica del Welcome 2 America Tour, una testimonianza audiovisiva della proclamazione che ha fatto al lancio del tour nell’ottobre 2010, affermando “Porta gli amici, porta i bambini di Ur e porta lo spray per i piedi, perché … sarà B funky“.
La performance presenta un cameo del recente vincitore del GRAMMY Ledisi e cover di “Make You Feel My Love” di Bob Dylan e “More Than This” di Roxy Music insieme ai preferiti di Prince, tra cui “17 Days”, “Controversy”, “1999” e “Purple Rain.”
L’uscita di Welcome 2 America si basa sulla partnership tra The Prince Estate e Sony Music Entertainment iniziata nell’agosto del 2018. A quel tempo, Sony ha iniziato a distribuire a livello globale le opere di Prince pubblicate dal 1995-2010, ampliandone la portata nel gennaio 2021 quando l’accordo è stato ampliato per includere la distribuzione negli Stati Uniti di dodici album in catalogo senza colonne sonore contenenti musica iconica registrata dall’Artista tra il 1978-1996.
