CUTTHROAT
Diretto da Matt Eastin e con protagonista anche l’attore Adrian Martinez, il video vede Munn al DMV. Trovandosi in uno stato di agitazione in costante aumento, il video è una visuale parallela della costruzione sonora fragorosa e frenetica della canzone. Il video è stato trasmesso in anteprima su MTV Live, MTVU e sul cartellone di ViacomCBS a Times Square.
“Cutthroat” è stato rilasciato il 12 marzo tramite KIDinaKORNER / Interscope. Un inno propulsivo e punk sull’uccisione della parte critica insita nelle persone, il cantante Dan Reynolds ha definito la canzone “un esorcismo dell’autocommiserazione”. La band ha registrato la canzone con il produttore Rick Rubin nel suo studio Shangri-La a Malibu.
Eastin in precedenza ha diretto il video musicale della band per “Follow You“, con agli attori di It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia la coppia nella vita reale Rob McElhenney e Kaitlin Olson e includeva colpi di scena fantastici, romanticismo e … alcuni petti nudi. Il video è stato salutato “esilarante” da Rolling Stone e ulteriormente elogiato da MTV News come “inesorabilmente auto-ribbing, ma mostra anche la band che fa quello che fa al massimo.
“Follow You” è stato pubblicato contemporaneamente a “Cutthroat” e recentemente ha raggiunto il numero 1 sia nella classifica di Radio alternative di Mediabase che nella classifica di Airplay alternativo di Billboard, a seguito del suo impatto costante come canzone più ascoltata ogni settimana dalla sua uscita. Ha segnato l’ascesa più veloce della band in cima alla classifica di Billboard, superando la scalata di sette settimane per “Natural” nel 2018 e la scalata di otto settimane per “Believer” nel 2017.
La canzone d’amore è stata scritta da Reynolds dopo essere tornati insieme e alla fine risposato sua moglie dopo una separazione di 7 mesi qualche anno fa. La band ha recentemente eseguito “Follow You“ al Late Show con Stephen Colbert
Billboard saluta che le uscite segnano il ritorno di Imagine Dragons “con un’ambizione impennata“, definendo “Follow You” una “canzone di devozione che mira a essere urlata da migliaia di persone in un festival“, mentre “Cutthroat” “invita a sbattere la testa in linea con il suo calpestio nervoso e pseudo-industriale’‘
