ALPHA ZULU
registrato all’interno del Louvre al Musée des Arts Décoratifs
L’acclamata band francese PHOENIX vincitrice di un Grammy annuncia oggi il nuovo album “ALPHA ZULU” in uscita il 4 novembre 2022 via Loyaute/Glassnote Records.
Prodotto dalla band stessa e registrato al Musée des Arts Décoratifs di Parigi, che si trova all’interno del Palazzo del Louvre, “ALPHA ZULU” è tutto ciò che i Phoenix sanno fare al meglio: melodie accattivanti e disinvolte accompagnate da una produzione sempre innovativa, che hanno dato vita a ciò che è destinato a diventare uno degli album del 2022.
“ALPHA ZULU” – il primo album della band dopo l’acclamato disco del 2017 “Ti Amo” -ricorda immediatamente ciò che ha reso i Phoenix una delle band più amate degli ultimi due decenni, un’ulteriore testimonianza della duratura influenza che la band ha avuto, e continua ad avere sulla cultura pop.
Ad accompagnare l’annuncio del disco, la pubblicazione di un nuovo brano dal titolo “Tonight” in duetto con Ezra Koenig dei Vampire Weekend, disponibile ovunque da oggi 7 settembre. Il risultato è semplicemente sublime. Il video, diretto da Oscar Boyson, è stato girato a Tokyo e Parigi (in parte nello studio della band al Musée des Arts Décoratifs), con Ezra e i Phoenix che si trovano in luoghi simili ma in parti del mondo completamente diverse.
I Phoenix non erano abituati a lavorare singolarmente a nuova musica per cui in quei mesi di allontanamento non hanno prodotto nuove idee. Quando però sono stati finalmente in grado di rivedersi e riunirsi, mesi dopo, “we were almost in a trance“, ha affermato Christian. Oltre a questa nuova sensazione quasi ultraterrena, è arrivata l’opportunità di un nuovo incredibile luogo di registrazione.
“We felt it would be a fantastic adventure to create something out of nothing in a museum,” ha detto Branco. “And so with the pandemic, we could live exactly this scene, to be alone in an empty museum.”
Durante il lockdown potevano accedere al museo solo attraverso una porta piuttosto distante che li costringeva a una passeggiata di 10 minuti attraverso stanze buie, piene di storia e di arte. Le torce del loro telefono illuminavano statue drappeggiate, quadri e anche il trono d’oro di Napoleone.
“I was a bit afraid, when there was too much beauty around us, that to create something could be a bit hard,” ha affermato Christian. “But it was the opposite: we couldn’t stop producing music. In these first 10 days, we wrote almost all of the album.”
In questa occasione hanno navigato da soli in questa esplosione di creatività, guidati dallo spirito del compianto Philippe Zdar, il loro più profondo collaboratore e amico, scomparso nel 2019.
